Mario Muru's story is a true example of how dreams and passion can become reality. He wasn't satisfied with just good taste – he wanted to bring something authentic to Tallinn. And for that was born El Camino Taco Bar - A place where tacos take on a new meaning. But what is a taco? A taco is one of the most beloved and diverse dishes in Mexican cuisine – a corn tortilla filled with a fresh, spicy and flavorful filling.
Inspiration from travels
Mario’s journey to creating El Camino began with long trips to the Kingdom of Thailand, where he was captivated by the street food culture there. The flavorful and fresh dishes offered by the streets there inspired him to open his own restaurant. But during the trip, an unexpected turn occurred – alongside the flavors of Thailand, Mario discovered the richness of Mexican cuisine. The taco recipes he created there were full of surprises: aromatic spices, fresh ingredients, and always a new flavor adventure.
“Mexican cuisine fascinated me with its diversity and play of flavors. It is so simple, yet full of surprises. I wanted people in Estonia to experience the same emotion that I felt when enjoying every Mexican dish. The different chilies, aromatic spices, and fresh ingredients created the impression that every meal was a small celebration,” jagab Mario.
A taco dream becomes a reality
In May 2023, Mario returned from Thailand and decided to make his dream come true. After extensive planning and menu development, El Camino Taco Bar opened its doors in August 2023. The restaurant quickly became a popular place where Mexican flavors meet Estonian hospitality.
Mario's menu reflects his love for authentic culinary experiences. Classic tacos are complemented by unique recipes that highlight the diversity of Mexican cuisine. Using only fresh and high-quality ingredients, El Camino works closely with local suppliers, supporting Estonian producers and creating the understanding that distant flavors do not require foreign raw materials. The menu is also complemented by carefully selected tequila and mezcal cocktails, offering guests an authentic Mexican drinking culture experience.
